Chakma District Congress, CDBJP, NPP & Chakma NGOs Condemn Mizoram Govt.’s negative comments on proposed Sixth Schedule Amendment with regards to 3 ADCs of Mizoram
KAMALANAGAR, 6, December: The political parties in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) including Bharatiya Janata Party, CADC, Chakma District Congress Committee, National People’s Party CADC and Chakma NGOs (Central Young Chakma Association, Central Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union & Chakma Mahila Samiti) have jointly held a peaceful protest against the negative comments put by ruling MNF government of Mizoram with regards to the Sixth Schedule Amendment to the Constitution of India with regards to 3 (three) sister Autonomous District Councils of Mizoram today at Kamalanagar the Headquarters of Chakma Autonomous District Council.
The peaceful protest received overwhelming support from all corners except the Chakma District Mizo National Front (CDMNF). Despite raining since the morning, around one thousand people have gathered at Kamalanagar-l Bazarline’s Traffic Point and showed the support and solidarity towards the peaceful protest.
Mizoram’s lone BJP MLA Dr. BD Chakma, Shri Laxmi Bikash Chakma, Vice-President, CDCC, Shri Doymoy Daveng Chakma, District President, NPP CADC and Shri Santosh Chakma, General Secretary, Central MCSU have addressed the peaceful protest and condemned the Mizoram Govt.’s negative endorsement on the proposed Sixth Schedule Amendment and have strongly demanded the Government of Mizoram to take back the negative comments immediately.
A copy of the Government of Mizoram’s negative comments has been burnt as a mark of protest.
Several slogans were shouted and placards were held by the protesters displaying strong messages like “Government of Mizoram Shame, Shame”, “Zoramthanga Hosh Mein Aao”, “We demand more powers to 3 ADCs of Mizoram and We Demand Article 280” etc.
Simultaneous peaceful protests were held today in all the 3 (three) Autonomous District Councils at their respective Headquarters, namely Kamalanagar, Lawngtlai and Siaha.
Some of the main demands of the 3(three) protesting ADCs included the demand for Amendment of Article 275 (1) and Article 280 for separate allocation of fund for the three Autonomous District Councils of Mizoram; Additional Power/creation of Paragraph 3C by giving more subjects to the three Autonomous District Councils; Amendment of paragraph 20 for change of nomenclatures of the three Autonomous District Councils (that is, Autonomous District Councils into Autonomous Territorial Councils); upholding the Governor’s discretionary powers under Paragraph 20BB etc.
